What's On?
Are you interested in exploring a medieval fortress? Do you think that you and your team are the best footballers the astronomy community has to offer? Or do you want to explore some of the local Warwickshire area? Maybe you just want to catch up with your friends and colleagues in person after the last couple of years?
At NAM2022 we're offering a few evening activities that will hopefully interest you. Some require pre-booking while others are turn up on the day, so please keep an eye out for updates here and on our social media feeds over the coming months, and please fill out any polls or surveys.
Here are some of the things we’ve got planned:
Sunday 10th July
Monday 11th July
- Guided tours of Kenilworth Castle. THIS TRIP IS NOW SOLD OUT
A vast medieval fortress that endured a famous siege and later became an Elizabethan palace, Kenilworth Castle is among Britain’s biggest historical sites. Experience 900 years of history as you can marvel at the mighty medieval keep, climb the towers to admire the fantastic views, and imagine the majesty of the Great Hall. Once boasting the finest architecture in Elizabethan England, you can also walk in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth 1 as you explore Leicester’s Building which was created specifically for her visits, and discover the authentically recreated Elizabethan garden.- Sign up during registration - spaces are limited SOLD OUT
- There is a small fee, which covers transport to the castle and your entry.
- Coaches leave at 18:10.
- The traditional NAM 5-a-side football tournament. Test your skills against other attendees in the July evening sunshine. Matches will take place on the 4G synthetic pitches by the University Sports and Wellness Hub.
- Team entry will open nearer the conference. Individual entrants also welcome - we will find you people to play with.
- Timings TBC.
Tuesday 12th July
- An informal social evening, with some semi-organised trips for students and postdocs to Coventry, Leamington Spa, and/or Stratford. More details nearer the conference.
Wednesday 13th July
- A mini science festival, running from 5pm - 9pm at the Arts Faculty building. Attendance is free, and families and children are welcome
- An evening screening of Arrival, along with an introduction and Q&A about depictions of scientists and hability in cinema.
Thursday 14th July
Throughout the week
- Sports Centre facilities - Attendees staying in on-campus accommodation get complementary access to the swimming pool and gym.
- Campus walking trails
- Suggested running routes
- Food & Drink on campus
